1,600 villages
along Ganga to be cleaned: Bharti
•
The
government of India is all set to clean 1,600 village panchayat headquarters
along the river banks within the next six months and complete the first phase
of Ganga cleaning by October this year.
•
The
second phase will be attained in four years after that in which 6,000 villages
will be taken up for the programme. Bharti was speaking on the sidelines of
‘Swachh Ganga- Gramin Sahbhagita’, a national-level consultation programme
organised for heads of villages located along the river banks.
GOI to create ‘Khadi
Gramudyog’ network

The
government wants to create a network of Khadi Gramudyog across villages in the
country to provide more job opportunities through the sector.
•
PM
Modi also lauded the efforts being made to produce khadi using Solar Charkha
and Solar Loom, noting that these will double income of the weavers and
increase production.
India, ADB ink
$80 Million Loan Agreement to Improve Urban Services in Agartala and Aizwal
•
Union
Government and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed $80million loan agreement
to improve urban services in two North Eastern cities Agartala and Aizwal.
•
This
loan agreement is the third tranche of a $200 million financing facility of ADB
under its North Eastern Region Capital cities Development Investment (NERCDI)
Program.
Kerala to host
global skill summit
•
Kerala
will host a three-day ‘Nypunyam International Skill Summit and Skill Fiesta
2016’ next month with a view to bridging the gap between the job market
requirement and the skill level of available workforce.
•
The
event will unfold on February 5, according to Tom Jose, Additional Chief
Secretary, Department of Labour and Skills, Kerala.
•
The
focus will be on improving the skill levels and bringing them up to world
standards in tune with the Prime Minister’s initiative for skilling 500 million
young people by 2020.
Goa launches

Goa
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar launched Goa e-Suvidha Portal, an online
project tracking mechanism to fast track projects.

It
aims at resolving a variety of issues in setting up infrastructure and other
large projects , both in the public and private sectors, with targeted
investment between 50 crore and 1,000 crore.

shortlist 20 cities under Smart Cities Mission

The
Union Ministry of Urban Development has shortlisted 20 cities from 11 States
and Delhi Union Territory in the list of first batch of Smart Cities Mission.
•
These
shortlisted cities were selected from Smart City Challenge competition in which
97 cities and towns had participated from 23 States and UTs.
•
Among
the shortlisted 20 Smart cities, 3 are from Madhya Pradesh, 2 each are from
Maharashtra, Rajasthan Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh and 1
each from Odisha, Kerala, Delhi (UT), Assam and Punjab

Law Ministry’s Legislative Department has constituted an expert committee to
review the Specific Relief Act, 1963.
•
It
will have chairman and 5 members and submit its report within three months i.e.
till April 2016

The
committee has been tasked to examine the Act in the context of present scenario
involving many issues and dealing with its various provisions.

Rs. 25,000 crore from BRICS Bank for Hyderabad
•
The
Telangana government has sought financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 25,000
crore from the BRICS Bank (New Development Bank BRICS) for the development of
Hyderabad.
•
The
government had prepared plans for developing the city with investments to the
tune of Rs. 30,000 crore.
Rajasthan
Government inks MoU to join UDAY Scheme
•
Rajasthan
Government along with its power distribution companies (DISCOMS) has signed a
MoU to join UDAY (Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) Scheme.
•
State
DISCOMS part of this MoU are Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVNL), Jodhpur
Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) and Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited
(AVNL).
•
With
this, Rajasthan became third state to sign the MoU under UDAY scheme after
Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Centre clears
new financing model for highway projects
•
The
union government approved the hybrid annuity model for building national
highways, paving the way for construction of 28 projects worth Rs. 36,000 crore
this fiscal year
•
Under
the public-private partnership (PPP) model, the government will invest 40 per cent
of the construction cost for building highways and the balance will come from
the private developer.
•
The
government will invest money in five equal installments based on the targeted
completion of the road project.
•
In
the next two fiscal years, the government will build more than 5,000 km of
national highways based on the hybrid annuity model.
India and
Armenia sign Double Taxation Avoidance Convention Amendment
•
A
Protocol to amend the existing Double Taxation Avoidance Convention was signed
by the Government of India and the Government of Armenia.
•
The
Protocol amends the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention between India and
Armenia that has been in existence since 9th September, 2004.
•
The
Protocol will enable the two countries to exchange information related to
financial and banking transactions under the Double Taxation Avoidance
Convention, and thereby facilitate them in addressing tax evasion.

The
Union Cabinet under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has
approved the raising of 17 India Reserve Battalions (IR Bns) by Jammu &
Kashmir and Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected States.

It
includes five IR Bns in the state of J&K, four IR Bns in Chhattisgarh,
three IR Bns in Jharkhand, three IR Bns in Odisha and two IR Bns in
Maharashtra.

Andhra
Pradesh is set to complete phase-I of the Rs. 2,000-crore Green Energy
Corridor, by March 2016, aimed at strengthening the evacuation network for
renewable energy projects.

To
facilitate wind power transmission of 3,150 MW, a Green Energy Corridor is
being developed. In the phase one, a Corridor to support 2,000 MW is being set
up with an outlay of Rs. 2,085.4 crore.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved development of the
six laning of National Highway-2 from Aurangabad-BarwaAdda section in Bihar and
Jharkhand.

The
six laning work approximately length of 222 kms will be under the National
Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V.
•
It
will be undertaken on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (BOT/DBFOT)
basis with an estimated cost of Rs.4918.48 crore.

software has been developed by Delhi government’s Trade and Taxes department.
Through this app, people can become a “VAT Inspectors.”

According
to VAT commissioner S S Yadav, the scheme would be for bill or cash memo/retail

Minister
of State for Railways Manoj Sinha has announced that the capitals of all
north-eastern states would be connected by rail by 2020 and Agartala would be
brought onto the map of broad gauge network by March.

Sinha
received the first broad gauge trial train in Agartala in the presence of state
PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury and Transport Minister Manik Dey. He said the
construction of 15 km-long railway track to connect Agartala with Akhaura in
Bangladesh “is a top priority”.

The Juvenile
Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 comes into force
•
The
Juvenile Justice Act, which allows children aged 16 to 18 years and in conflict
with law to be tried as adults in cases of heinous offences, has finally comes
into force.
•
The
Act, passed by the Rajya Sabha in the winter session of Parliament, received
President Pranab Mukherjee’s assent on December 31.
•
The
Ministry of Woman and Child Development has passed orders stating that the
Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 will be enforceable
from January 15, 2016.

India’s
Grid-linked solar generation capacity crosses 5,000 MW mark
•
Union
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced that India’s grid-connected
solar power generation capacity has crossed the 5,000 Mega Watt (MW) mark.
•
Presently,
Government has set an ambitious plan to achieve 175 Giga Watt (GW) of power
generation capacity from renewable sources by 2022. It includes 100 GW from
solar and 60 GW from wind.

Squad' Commissioned For High-Altitute Posts Of India-China Border

A
freshly-trained contingent of 500 women personnel will become the first 'mahila'
squad to be deployed in high-altitude posts along the India-China border. The
squad was commissioned into the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Panchkula.

The
women, in the rank of constable, were inducted in the border-guarding force
after 44-weeks of training in battle craft and mountain survival and will now
be sent to frontier areas for final acclimatisation before being deployed at
ITBP posts along the 3,488-km Sino-India Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Kerala becomes 1st state in country to achieve 100% primary

the first state in the country to achieve total primary education. Through its
literacy programme Athulyam, which was carried out in two phases after being
launched in March 2013, the state aimed at educating those who had been unable

President gives assent to The Sugar Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2015

President Pranab
Mukherjee has given his assent to the Sugar Cess (Amendment) Bill, 2015,
raising the ceiling of the impost from Rs 25 to Rs 200 per quintal, a measure
that will help sugarcane growers and cash-starved mills.

to the bill, which will help the government meet its expenditure on
interventions to ensure payment of dues to the sugarcane farmers, was granted

The hike in sugar
cess would lead to increase in the accruals to the Sugar Development Fund,

The Union Cabinet,

Energy Systems (IEA-OES) by signing the Implementing Agreement (IA).

The nodal agency for
the membership would be Earth System Science Organisation - National Institute
of Ocean Technology (ESSO-NIOT) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Fast-tracking
implementation of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, the Centre has set up a

The Union Cabinet
chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the ‘Pradhan
Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ - a path breaking scheme for farmers’ welfare
The
highlights of this scheme are:
•
There will be a
uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5%
for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the
premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5%.
•
The premium rates to
be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the
Government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on
account of natural calamities.

it in Nuapada, Malkangiri and Kalahandi districts of Odisha.

(Maoist). The Committee is protesting against the Operation by security forces
against the ultras in the south-western part of the State.

MoEF has also allowed bullock cart race called Rekhla race to take place in the
states where it is traditionally performed.

The
MoEF has removed bulls from the list of animals banned from public display for

to build 3 special training centers for disabled sportsmen
•
The
government will set up three state-of-the-art centres in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh
and Andhra Pradesh to provide special training and support to sportsmen who are
differently-abled.

The

Bombay
High Court directed Maharashtra government to procure 1843 decibel meters
within three months for the police. The direction was given to ensure that
there is no violation of noise pollution rules during festivals, public

while hearing a bunch of public interest litigations seeking implementation of
noise pollution rules and regulations.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has decided to implement the stricter
emission norms of Bharat Stage BS-VI from 1st April 2020 in a bid to curb

The
Union Cabinet approved the “Stand Up India Scheme” to promote entrepreneurship

The
Scheme is intended to facilitate at least two such projects per bank branch, on
an average one for eachcategory of entrepreneur. It is expected to benefit
atleast 2.5 lakh borrowers in 36 months from the launch of the Scheme.

The
Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh approved the State wise allocation of
Additional Central Assistance (ACA) of Rs.1000 crores to 35 worst LWE (Left
Wing Extrimism) affected districts in seven states.

of these 35 districts, there are 16 affected districts in Jharkhand, 8 in
Chhattisgarh, 6 in Bihar, 2 in Odisha and one each in Maharashtra, Andhra

The
Union cabinet has given its ex-post-facto approval to Memorandum of

MoU also seeks to establish new Border Haats along the border after

Ambitious
odd-even scheme of Delhi government started off in New Delhi

The
ambitious odd-even scheme of Delhi government, a first such intervention in the
country to combat spiralling air pollution, got off to a decent start on new
year with volume of cars on the city roads coming down significantly amid
deployment of thousands of policemen and moderately augmented public transport.

Transco sees Rs. 5,148 cr revenue gap for FY17

The
annual revenue requirement (ARR) proposed to be filed by the AP Transco with
the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, shows a revenue deficit of Rs.
5,148 crore.
•
The
proposal assures 24 hours power supply to all consumers and seven hours of free
power supply to agriculture consumers.
